We've been in Oxford for 2 days now, and we leave in the morning. We'll be glad to get back on the road again, as sight seeing has been exhausting in its own way. There are many more tourists here than we had expected. Lots of Germans and Italians. The streets are very crowded with large tourist groups. But we've really enjoyed seeing all of the buildings here, and went into one of the Oxford colleges today. I had no idea that the University here was so spread out. It's an urban university, like Case in Cleveland. There are many separate colleges that make up the university and each one is enclosed by walls or fences and most do not allow any kind public access. But we got into today to the New College and self-toured the grounds.
There are soooo many cyclists here! And every type of person is on every type of bike you can imagine. Today I saw a white haired older gentleman in a suit, wearing a yellow bow tie - he rung his bell at us as he rode by. Mary saw someone in robes on a bike earlier. I saw a guy carrying a suitcase with one hand and steering with the other. Lots of baskets on the fronts of bikes, and very few are wearing helmets. I've seen lots of folding bikes and a few Dutch bikes as well.
